In an interview with Mat Lauer, host of Today, Lauer asked Ellen DeGeneres, famous host of Ellen DeGeneres show, if she would accept trump coming on her show. Before she said no, DeGeneres hesitated while giving an answer.
Her answer made people laugh and received many hilarious reactions while the audiences applauded.
The conversation between Lauer and DeGeneres went as follows:
“Why wouldn’t someone like you want to sit down opposite the president of the United States?” he asked.
“Because I’m not going to change his mind,” DeGeneres replied. “He’s against everything that I stand for,” she answered.
DeGeneres remarked that she saw Trump once; it was during the early days of The Apprentice. DeGeneres said that she rode in his helicopter too. However, DeGeneres didn’t speak to Trump since he ran for US presidency in 2015.
“We need to look at someone else who looks different from us and believes in something that we don’t believe in and still accept them and let them have their rights,” DeGeneres commented.
The interview with DeGeneres comes at the same day of the 20th year anniversary of an epic episode for the famous host. A week before that, she was the cover photo of Time magazine with the words “Yep, I’m Gay.”
“I wish I would have done it sooner, I wish I hadn’t waited so long,” DeGeneres stated.
After the interview, she admitted to Lauer that she received many suicidal letters from people who were about to commit suicide but didn’t because of her actions and bravery.
DeGeneres also confessed that this has affected her career for three years.
“For three years, I couldn’t work,” DeGeneres stated. “I was not offered one thing and I was running out of money and didn’t know if I was going to work again.”
However, that experience made her stronger and taught her how to be more compassionate
“It was the greatest thing to ever happen to me.” She said to Lauer.
